Our Story
Our Story
The Start
King’s Cross was planted in Bloomington in 2012 as Hope Presbyterian Church with a desire to serve our community. We believed (and still do!) that the best way to serve our neighbors is through making God known to them. Our first service was at Harmony School, but we met at the Monroe County Convention Center for many years before settling into our home at 3001 N Prow Rd.
Since our founding, we have been a community of believers who desire to be renewed inwardly by the power of the Gospel and to have this renewal overflow into the surrounding community. We have been blessed to have a front row seat to the renewal that has occurred in the lives of the many men, women, and children who have been a part of our family throughout these years of ministry.
The Storm
We went through a very challenging season as Hope Presbyterian Church, as our planting pastor faced severe allegations of wrongdoing. The experience was harrowing for leaders and our congregation alike. We put trust into a church court and a trial that they conducted to try to find the truth and bring justice. The verdict was an acquittal of the charges upon the pastor, but much damage remained.
The Renewal
Since that tumultuous season, we have looked to God to renew us. Hope Presbyterian Church has become King's Cross. We are a united congregation with the same history, and we are unafraid to acknowledge the hardest of times. But in the same way God redeems our lives from the pit of despair, he is doing the same thing with our church as a collective.
Our theme verse as a church is from 2 Cor 5:17: "The old has passed away. Behold! The new has come."
The Invitation
If you have a broken past or feel stuck... If you have faced church hurt... If things in your life don't make sense to you...
King's Cross is the place where you can experience God as he renews all of us together. It is part of our story too. This is why our mission statement is Know God. Love People. Be Renewed. You can experience resurrection power at King's Cross.
It is our continued prayer that God will continue to bless us with many more family members in the years to come! We are full of anticipation at what the Lord will continue to do in us and through us.
